Separate shootings injure 5, including two 16-year-old boys.



Two 16-year-old boys and three men were injured in separate shootings in the city Monday, Chicago police said.

In the latest shooting, a 19-year-old man was shot around 9 p.m. on the 6600 block of South Oakley Avenue in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said.

The man standing on the street with several males when someone fired shots, striking him in the leg. He was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was shot at 7:04 p.m. on the 2700 block of Lexington Street in the Lawndale neighborhood, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman.

The shooting left the teen with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, Sweeney said. Police said the boy was a known gang member.

At 6:10 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side, Sweeney said.

The shooting happened on the 3700 block of West Eastwood Avenue and left the man with a gunshot wound to his buttocks, Sweeney said. The man was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, Sweeney said. Police think the shooting was narcotics-related.

Separately, a 32-year-old man was shot on the 200 block of North Kenneth Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, Sweeney said.

That shooting happened at 4:17 p.m. and left the man with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, Sweeney said.

Another 16-year-old was shot at 10:37 a.m. on the 11900 block of South Wentworth Avenue on the Far South Side, Sweeney said.

The teen was shot in the leg but refused medical attention, according to preliminary information, Sweeney said.

Police said the boy, who is a known gang member, was not being cooperative with the investigation.
