9 wounded in shootings since Friday afternoon.



At least nine people have been wounded in shootings since Friday afternoon, police said.

The most recent shooting was at 10:50 p.m., when a 23-year-old man was shot in East Garfield Park, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago police spokesman.

He was trying to break up a fight in the 3200 block of West Madison Street when someone walked up and fired shots, Alfaro said. He was hit in the arm and went to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

At about 9 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in West Pullman, Alfaro said.

He was in the back seat of a car traveling southbound in the 11500 block of South Perry Avenue when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot. He was hit in the back and went to Advocate Christ Medical Center. His condition was stabilized.

Three men were shot and critically wounded in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood Friday evening, police said.

The men were shot just before 8 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Kildare Avenue, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago police spokeswoman. A man, 51, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was in critical condition; a 19-year-old was shot in the abdomen, arm and buttocks and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condtion; and a 27-year-old was shot in the leg and arm and taken to Stroger Hospital in criticla condition, she said.

Neighbors watched police work the taped-off scene of the shooting. The scene was routine and largely quiet.

"Let me get my ass in the house," said one middle-aged man who declined to be named.

"I was playing x box and I hit the floor," said the man as his neighbor estimated about 10 rounds were fired.

A woman with him who also declined to give her name said she had lived here for years and that she thought the shooters came from outside the neighborhood.

"This is a quiet block," she said. "It used to be."

"Now all of a sudden it turned around and I'm ready to get out," she said

Two of the victims lived a few houses down and didn't bother anybody, she says

"He sells loose cigarettes," the man said of one of the victims.

At about 5:30 p.m., a 32-year-old man was shot in West Garfield Park, police said. late Friday afternoon in a shooting on the West Side in the city's West Garfield Park neighborhood.

He was in the 4500 block of West Maypole Avenue when he was shot in the leg, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman. He reportedly was listed in good condition, however, where he was taken for treatment was not immediately available.

Earlier Friday, three teens were shot in front Camelot Excel Southwest High School at 70th Street and Washtenaw Avenue in the city's Chicago Lawn neighborhood, police said.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the head and torso and taken in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Two other teens, a 15-year-old boy and a girl, 17, suffered graze wounds and were taken to the same hospital for treatment.

Police were investigating.
