5 shot in separate shootings on the South Side.

At least five people were injured in three shootings on the South Side Tuesday, police said.

In the latest shooting, two teenage boys were injured on the 7400 block of South Sangamon Street in the Englewood neighborhood at 9:10 p.m., police said.

According to preliminary information the teens were 16 and 15 years old. The older boy was shot in the face and the younger boy was shot in an ankle, police said.

The injuries were not considered life threatening, police said. No other details were immediately available, police said.

Earlier, two people were injured at 6:48 p.m. on the 5200 block of South Peoria Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, said Officer Nicole Trainor.

A man, whose age was not immediately available, was shot in the leg and hand and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Trainor said.

In addition to that man, a 44-year-old man was injured in the same shooting, Trainor said. The man suffered a graze wound to his leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition stabilized, Trainor said.

Earlier, a 22-year-old man was shot at 6 p.m. on the 1700 block of East 71st Street, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

The man was shot in the arm, back and abdomen and managed to get to Jackson Park Hospital, where he was in critical condition, Sweeney said.

The victim, who is a gang member, was on the street when two people approached him, engaged him in conversation and then brandished a handgun and began firing, Sweeney said.
