MOSCOW - Russia's air forces carried out 164 sorties in Syria in the past three days, hitting 556 targets, Lt.-Gen. Sergei Rudskoi, a department chief at Russia's Defense Ministry, told a news briefing on Monday.
In a statement released on Monday, the Combined Joint Task Force said the 11 air strikes near Manbij in Syria hit seven Islamic State tactical units as well as a building used by the group, among other targets. Five other strikes hit near Hasaka, Ar Raqqa and Mar'a, it said.
In Iraq, 21 strikes near eight cities included three near Ramadi, where Iraqi forces declared victory over Islamic State fighters over the weekend. The Coalition strikes there hit two Islamic State tactical units, wounded 12 of the group's fighters and destroyed two of the group's buildings among other targets, the statement said.
Turkey has long opposed advances by Syrian Kurdish forces for fear this will lead to the creation of a Kurdish state on its border which in turn might encourage its own Kurdish minority.
Speaking at a news conference in the Serbian capital where he was on an official visit, Davutoglu said the government's current information showed that the groups that crossed the Euphrates over the weekend were Arabs, not Kurdish, forces.
"Yes, the city of Ramadi has been liberated. The Iraqi counter terrorism forces have raised the Iraqi flag over the government complex in Anbar", joint operations spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Rasool said in a statement broadcast on state television.
