Love Story : René Angélil, Céline Dion’s husband, dead at 73

René Angélil is dead at the age of 73. Angélil was the husband and former manager of Canadian pop superstar Céline Dion. He passed away this morning (Thursday) at his home in Las Vegas.

Angélil had been suffering from ill health and bouts with cancer for some time and in 2014. Dion had postponed all her show business commitments, including her ongoing Las Vegas show, to care for him.
Angélil's death was confirmed on Dion's Facebook page, stating that Angélil had passed away after a "long and courageous fight against cancer."
Montreal-born Angélil, a former boy band member in the 1960s, discovered Dion when she was 12 years old after deciding in the 1970s to switch his music industry focus to management, handling the careers of Quebec artists like Ginette Reno and René Simard.
After receiving Dion's demo tape, Angélil mortgaged his house to help launch her career.
The two developed a romantic as well as a business relationship and married in 1994, by which time Dion was an international superstar.
Dion had broken through from Quebec's music industry with her 1990 English album Unison, putting her on the path to international recognition. Throughout the 1990's Angélil shepherded Dion's career to superstar status through albums such as 1997's Let's Talk About Love, one of the best-selling albums of all time, which featured the theme from Titanic, "My Heart Will Go On."
Angélil began to battle throat cancer in the late 1990s and he eventually handed over the management duties of Dion's career in June 2014 as his health failed.
Angélil  and Dion had three children together. Their oldest son, René-Charles, is 14. The couple also have twins, Nelson and Eddy, 5.
