"Lazarus" off David Bowie's upcoming album Blackstar out 8 January 2016.
David Bowie has released a disturbing new music video for “Lazarus,” the second single off of his upcoming new album Blackstar. The video is a continuation of sorts from Bowie’s last music video for “Blackstar”(both directed by Johan Renck), following one of the video’s main characters named Button Eyes played by Bowie himself.
In “Lazarus,” Button Eyes is confined to a hospital bed while another version of Bowie emerges from a closet to dance around and write a letter. In a press release, Renck talked about working with his hero Bowie again: “One could only dream about collaborating with a mind like that; let alone twice. Intuitive, playful, mysterious and profound…I have no desire to do any more videos knowing the process never ever gets as formidable and fulfilling as this was. I’ve basically touched the sun.”
“Lazarus” appears on Blackstar, which comes out tomorrow, but it is also the name of a Bowie musical in New York City starring actor Michael C. Hall. Back in December, Hall appeared on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform the track. Lazarus, the musical, closes on Jan. 19.
