A 21-year-old man who also was hurt in the shooting managed to get himself to West Suburban Medical Center, where he was in good condition with a gunshot wound to his finger and arm, said Sweeney.

The two men were outside when a vehicle pulled up and shot at them, said Sweeney.

The earlier killing also took place in the Austin neighborhood.

A 28-year-old man was found dead in a vacant lot in the 5400 block of West Walton Street at 9:35 a.m., according to Officer Laura Amezaga, a police spokeswoman. Police initially said he was 30 years old.
