Police in Arlington arrested a mother after finding her baby face down near a creek. The incident started at around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday night when a homeowner called police about another situation involving the mom and a different child.
Authorities described the story on Facebook. They stated that the woman and her 2-year-old child walked into someone else’s home through an unlocked door, in the 800 block of Spring Miller Court. The woman appeared to be intoxicated, police added in the online post. Officers arrived at the residence and the mother then attempted to flee from the scene with her child still in tow.
The woman was “clearly a danger to her children,” according to the Arlington Police Department. The mother was detained by officers and the toddler appeared to be fine after an initial check.
The baby was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out. He was determined to be mostly unharmed, but covered in several bug bites. Both kids have now been released to “responsible relatives.” The mom, later identified as Amanda Smith, now faces two counts of abandoning and endangering a child.
